Donnie McCrary
Battle Star XVII January 28 2004 Francisco Diaz (9-1) vs. Donny McCrary (4-0) Diaz won a high quality 1st rd. Lots of punches thrown by both fighters and lots of punches landed. The 2nd rd was going along fine until a devastating Left-Hook to the body put Donny down for an 8 count. There was debate around me whether it was low or not. Even if it was low, it appeared to be on the side not "in the middle". Francisco put McCrary down again with, this time, a more clear low-blow. It took another low-blow before the ref finally saw one. This time Diaz was warned. From this point on, the two fighters traded shots with Diaz landing cleaner shots. Diaz won a unanimous decision. Francisco did not seem to have much power on his shots or Donny has a really good chin. Clash of the Titans June 30 2004 Donnie McCrary (5-1,5 KO) vs. Jesse Sanders (5-0-1,4 KO) The first round was close. Donnie landed a good Left Hook to start the round then a feeling out period began. Jesse ended the round with a good Left Hook. McCrary controlled most of the second round and ended the round with two nice Upper Cuts. Jesse did land a good Right Hand to the body in the second but Donnie gets the round. Tough round to score in the third because both fighters showed signs of tiredness. Jesse landed more shots early but Donnie landed heavier shots at the end of the round with two Upper Cuts and a nice Over Hand Right to close out the round. Donnie bloodied Jesse's nose in the third round. A battle in the fourth round despite both being tired. I felt Sanders did more effective work to get the fourth round. It was a nice fight. Now to the score cards: 39-37 McCrary, 38-38, and 39-37 Sanders for a split draw. A fair decision I guess but a draw sure is a letdown. River Rumble August 13 2004 Eric Salizar (2-1, 2 KO's) vs. Donnie McCrary (5-1-1, 5 KO's)) First round was controlled by Donnie who used a stiff Left-Jab from the outside and Upper-Cuts on the inside. The second round ended abruptly when Salizar decided to pick McCrary up and dump him on his back-side. The ref immediately ended the fight at 0:25 of second round. The crowd was not happy and wanted the ref to give Donnie the chance to avenge the dumping but that was not allowed to happen. SHOBOX: The New Generation September 2 2004 Donnie McCrary (6-1-1, 5 KO's) vs. Isaiah Henderson (7-1, 5 KO's) This was a great, even fight. Close first round I gave to Donnie because of effective work on the inside. Toss-up second round as Isaiah landed a good body shot while Donnie landed a good head shot. Toe to toe to start the third round with both landing good shots. Donnie earned the round with more work in the second half of the round as Isaiah showed signs of tiring. Isaiah came back in the fourth to control the round even though Donnie did land a good Left Hook. It was not enough to get the fourth round. Both fighters appeared fatigued in the fifth round with Donnie doing more work to earn the round. Good sixth round going to Donnie. He landed more punches. Entertaining fight throughout even as both fighters began to tire. Now to the scorecards: 58-56 McCrary, 58-56 Henderson, and 60-54 McCrary for the split-decision victory for Donnie McCrary. Clash of the Titans II November 19 2004 Donnie McCrary (7-1-1) vs. Isaiah Henderson (8-2) I was really looking forward to this rematch. Donnie dominated the 1st round as he was able to dodge the Jab of Isaiah and caught Henderson with a quick Short Right Hook for a flash knockdown. McCrary could tell Henderson was not that hurt so he stayed patient, continued to dodge the Jab and land Lefts and Rights. Donnie easily gets the 1st round. The 2nd round ended abruptly. Donnie slipped in a neutral corner and as the ref came in to wipe off Donnie's gloves, Isaiah landed an incredible right hand that knocked McCrary out of the roped and instantly unconscious. Isaiah did not know the ref was stepping in and the ref immediately indicated that it was an accidental punch. The fight ended in a no-contest.
