Galen Brown

Beaumont Brawl December 04 2004

Galen Brown (16-2-1) vs. Vance Winn (6-16-2)

Vance had a decent first round by landing three Right Hands.  Unfortunately for Vance, Galen landed a lot more.  Galen kept his distance as to not get caught and it allowed him to use his superior hand speed to gather points.  Winn started the second round by landing a couple of shots before Galen force Vance into the corner and landed a Over-Hand Right that sent Vance down and he stayed down.  That gave Brown a KO victory at 0:43 of the second round.

Galen Brown (15-2-1) vs. Rick Camlin (33-4)

I am going to break away from the round-by-round format for this review.  Instead, I am going to give a synopsis.  Rick was content to stay at a distance and try to fade back when Galen would throw punches.  The punches that Galen landed looked stronger than they were due to this technique.  It appeared that Camlin was trying to get Brown into later rounds hoping that Galen would tire or was trying to frustrate Galen into making a mistake.  He did have Galen frustrated but Brown did not make a mistake.  After seven rounds of waiting for an attack from Rick, Galen took matters into his own hands.  He landed a body shot that signaled the weakness he needed to attack.  Two more body shot and a big Right to the stomach doubled Camlin.  Galen charged in for the kill and threw another punch that sent Rick to the canvas.  As Camlin went down, Brown ran him over and Camlin landed funny on his arm.  He was in obvious discomfort when he got back to his feet but the ref felt it was due to the punches and called the fight at 1:50 of the 8th round.

This was a difficult fight for Galen because of the savvy of Camlin.  Rick was hard to catch and hard to hit.  I think it was a good learning experience for Galen because he had to find a way to force the action.  Despite his frustration, Galen found a way to win and the future looks bright for Galen Brown.

Jason Aaker (5-2, 3 KO's) vs. Galen Brown (14-3-1, 9 KO's)

This looked like it would be a dangerous fight for Galen as Jason had a nice physic.  Well it only took Galen 2:27 to remove any danger.  The round started with Galen using movement to stifle any offense by Jason.  While dodging punches by moving, Galen would move and then stop and nail Jason.  He used this technique to stagger Jason with a Left Hook.  Then a Left followed by a Over Hand Right caused the first knockdown.  Jason answered the eight count only to get knocked stiff by a Left/Right Cross combination.  Jason did a 180 spin on his way down.  The ref stopped the fight instantly and called for the doctor.  After a few seconds, Jason tried to hop to his feet only to fall down again.  He was able to get up the second time but it was obvious he was not put back together yet.  His trainer was finally able to get him to sit down so the doctor could have a look and he walked out of the ring on his own.  This was a fantastic showing by Galen.  He was not part of the televised action but did leave an impression on the minds of the Showtime brass that he deserves a television appearance in the near future.

River Rumble August 13 2004

Jim Franklin (6-2, 4 KO's) vs. Galen Brown (13-2-1, 8 KO's)

Galen decided to use movement and skill in this bout.  Not much was landed in the first until a 1-2 by Brown at the bell.  Galen continued to use him movement to control the fight in the second round and landed a late combination to solidify round two for himself.  Brown decided to throw punches in the third round.  He cornered Franklin in the corner and unloaded.  Many shots were landed but Franklin was not hurt.  Galen went back to movement in fourth round but this time Jim was able to catch him a few times; however, not enough to get the round.  Apparently during the fourth round Galen landed a punch that broke one of Jim's ribs because he did not answer the bell for the fifth round due to a rib injury.  This was disappointing because he was finally getting his range.

NABC Light Heavyweight Title

Galen Brown (12-2-1,7 KO) vs. Nate Zeikle (11-3,6 KO)

This was a battle between St. Joseph, MO (Brown) and Cameron, MO (Zeikle) titled "The Brawl to End it All".  The crowd was split relatively evenly between the two sides.  The atmosphere was electric and the configuration of Union Station helped as well.

Limited action in the first with Galen landing more punches.  The second round was close with both fighters landing simultaneously two or three times.  Unfortunately for Nate, the last duel punch resulted in Nate missing and Galen landing a punch that sent Zeikle spinning to the canvas.  The punch was so hard that Nate continued to spin on his rear while on the mat.  Somehow, Zeikle managed to get up by the eight count, put his hands up in the air, and convince the ref that he was ok to continue.  The ref allowed it to continue and to the luck of Nate, the bell rang to end the second round.  It was obvious that Nate was still feeling the knockdown at the start of the third round but Galen was cautious and it appeared Nate was going to have time to recover.  Well that ended when Galen landed an incredible Over Hand Right clean and flush for a big time KO at 1:22 of the third round.  These two knockdowns rank at the top of any I have seen in Kansas City since I have been following fights the last two years.
