Keith Simms

Ronnie Warrior Jr. (8-1) vs. Keith Simms (21-11-1)

You get one of two things with Keith Sims.  If he gets hit early, you get a quality fight.  If he does not get hit, you get more show than substance.  Well, he did not get hit early thus setting up for a less than stellar fight as a whole.  Not much happened in the first round although Keith did more work.  Another non-descript round in the second I gave to Sims.  Despite two warnings to Ronnie for leaning on Sims, I gave round three to Ronnie.  It took until the fourth round for Ronnie to figure out how to effectively land punches with Sims smothering him so I gave the fourth to Warrior.  The fifth round consisted of both fighters leaning on each other and not much else.  I gave Ronnie the round because there was a stretch in the middle of the round that he was able to actually land some punches.  Sims earned the sixth round with effective inside work.  Things changed in the seventh.  Sims decided to try to work from the outside.  This turned out to be a mistake.  Warrior was able to win the seventh.  Now its the eighth and Sims is still on the outside.  Ronnie took full advantage be landing a beautiful Over Hand Right that put Sims down for an eight count.  Warrior finished Sims off with a Left/Right combination followed by a Left Upper Cut for the KO win at 1:49 of the 8th round.

Keith Simms (22-11-1) vs. Will Evans (8-4)

Active 1st round with both fighters landing some good punches.  I felt Keith landed the better punches.  Will won the second round despite a late Lead Left and a Left/Right combination.  Keith controlled the 3rd despite wild shots by Will.  Keith was able to easily doge Will's wide punches.  The 4th round one again saw Keith dodging Will's punches while landing his own Straight Left Hands.  It was a fairly even landing round in the 5th with Keith landing a few more to get the round.  The 6th round was mainly Will flailing and Keith dodging and I gave the round to Keith due to three good Straight Left hands.  The land ratio at this point was 3-1 in Simms' favor. More Lead Left Hands by Simms in he 7th gave him the round. It appeared that Evans began to land punches in the 8th, at least from my vantage point.  They could have been blocked as Keith had his back to me and was caught against the ropes.  I gave the 8th round to Evans.  Keith regained control in the 9th round as he landed a strong three punch combination and then finished the round with more Straight Left Hands.  The 10th round was tough to score but I gave it to Will due to an effective flurry mid-way through the round.  Keith again came back in the 11th round with his effective Straight Left Hands.  Obviously the Straight Left Hands were to key to Keith's attack.  Will came at Simms with everything he had in the 12th round and even knocked Keith down.  Keith looked hurt but was able to beat the count.  Evans tried to finish the deal but he had to take a couple of moments to regain his breath and when he did start to unload, Keith would clinch.  Keith was able to make it to the bell without being knocked out so we go to the score cards.  Here are the judges scores: 116-111, 114-113, and 117-110 all for the unanimous winner Keith Simms.
