Leroy Childs

Battle Star XVI November 12 2003

Leroy Childs (7-0) vs. Darren Reese (1-5)

1st rd was all Leroy.  Darren was knocked down twice in 2nd rd.  Both knock-downs were caused by accumulation of punches.  Each time Darren really fell for protection.  The fight ended via TKO at 2:29 of the 3rd rd.  Reese actually quit after delivering a low-blow to Childs.

Battle Star XVIII March 24 2004

Leroy Childs (8-0) vs Doug Florence (0-0)

This was an unfair match-up.  A stiff Left Jab by Childs got one knockdown while another (maybe followed by a Straight Right) got the KO at 1:41 of the first.  Doug did get to throw a few punches before the fight was over but it was never a contest.

A personal commentary here:  I hope that Leroy can now begin to find better competition.  He has shown awesome power in his early fights.  I have already indicated on the "boxers" page that it will be hard to find competition for Leroy around here.  I said that before I saw some of the talent under Rob Calloway's camp in St. Joseph.  I don't know if that would be a place to start or if Leroy is going to have to search farther out.  I do know however that Leroy appears ready to step it up and begin to try to make some noise in the heavy weight division.

IBC Continental Heavyweight Title Fight

Leroy Childs (9-0) vs. Ralph West (13-3-1)

Not much happened in the first round until Leroy landed an Over Hand Right that staggered West.  He was staggered but did not go down nor get an eight count.  Mainly walking around and eyeing each other in the second round as West figured out in the first round that if he gets close enough to throw a punch he is close enough to get staggered.  Toss-up third round as Ralph got close enough to throw meaningful punches.  Another non-descript fourth round as it appears that Leroy is trying to get rounds in.  West was again staggered in the fifth round by a Left Hook.  Leroy began to throw a barrage of punches that West was able to withstand.  At the end of the flurry, West was able to retaliate on the punched out Childs.  Childs gets the fifth round due to the staggering.  West however gets the sixth as he continued to hit a tired Childs.  Leroy caught another wind in the seventh and was able to again stagger Ralph.  A toss-up in round eight as Leroy controlled the first half and Ralph controlled the second half.  A major toss-up in the ninth round as not much happened.  West earned the tenth round by throwing more punches.  West gets a close eleventh round as he worked his way inside which Leroy did not seem to know how to handle.  Leroy rebounded in the twelfth enough to get the round.  Overall it was an unimpressive fight.  Leroy gets a unanimous decision 116-112, 116-112, and 116-112.  I began to notice that Leroy was not throwing his right hand at all.  I saw Leroy after the fight and asked him about the hand and he showed it to me.  It was really swollen thus indicating why he was not using it.

Battle Star XXI November 10 2004

Leroy Childs (10-0) vs. Peter Ford (0-0)

Unfortunately, Leroy's original opponent must have cancelled because Peter was not on the pre-printed fight card.  The 1st round did not see much action as both men stocked around the ring.  A little more action in the 2nd round as Peter got close enough Leroy could land a couple of shots.  I am not sure if it was the 2nd or 3rd round when Leroy landed a Lead Right Hand followed by a Left Hook that sent Peter to the canvas.  Peter made it to his feet but the ref could see in his eyes that he was done for a TKO at 2:29 of the round.

After the fight, Leroy took the microphone and thanked everyone for coming out.  He said that every fight could not be a knock-out (referring to his IBC Continental Heavyweight Title victory in his previous fight) and then said that in time he would bring a World Heavy Weight Championship to Kansas City Missouri.
