Mary Ortega Battle Star XVI November 12 2003 Mary Ortega (23-1-1) vs. Liz Drew (?) Nice technical rd for Mary in the 1st while Liz surprised me with her fighting ability. Mary won the 2nd rd but it took finishing with a good Left-hook. There were a lot of punches thrown in the 2nd. It was all Mary in the 3rd rd as she began to dial Drew in. Mary was in control up to this point but Liz changed that with a nice 4th rd and won the rd. Both fighters seem to take the 5th rd off because not much happened. They obviously were saving up the 6th and final round. Good action with Mary finishing with a flurry for the 6th rd. Mary won the fight 59-55 on two cards and 60-54 on the other. Liz was better than I expected. She took every punch without a hitch and caught Mary a few times; however, Mary was just too much. Battle Star XX September 22 2004 Mary Ortega. (24-1-1) vs. Leslie McNamara (0-3) This was a surprisingly interesting fight. An active first round with Mary controlling throughout. It was a close second round with Leslie landing many Over Hand Rights and Mary landed a Left/Right to the body followed by a Left Hook to the head. Another action packed round in the third with Leslie landing early and Mary lading late. I gave the round to Mary. It was a fantastic fourth round as both fighters traded blows this time Mary used a Right Upper Cut to gain control of the round. Now to the scorecards: 40-36, 40-36, and 39-37 to Mary Ortega. Clash of the Titans II November 19 2004 Mary Ortega (25-2-1) vs. Leslie McNamara (1-4) McNamara started to fire her Left hand right out of the gate but Mary would either dodge or block the Left. Mary landed two or three nice combinations in the 1st round. One was a Left Hook to the body followed by an Over-Hand Right to the head and then she reversed it with a Right Hook to the body and a Left Hook to the head. Mary controlled the 1st round as both fighters were content to trade punches. Mary opened the 2nd round with a powerful Right Hand that stunned Leslie but Leslie shook it off and started to throw as many punches as she could. Mary seemed content to take one punch so that she could land her three-punch combinations. Mary was warned twice for Low-Blows but they did not affect the outcome of the round as Mary was dishing out more punishment than she was receiving. Another active round in the 3rd. This time Mary earned the round by landing a Right Hook that literally sent Leslie's mouth piece over the ring-side officials and into the first row. It was quickly retrieved by her corner and the round continued. Mary won the 3rd round but she was getting too close to McNamara causing her punches to be smothered. Ortega needed to take a step back or to the side to free up her punches. The crowd was going nuts at the end of the 4th round. Mary landed seven straight Upper-Cuts but Leslie refused to go down. McNamara showed a lot of heart. Mary would either take one punch to land two or completely dodge Leslie's punches. Ortega finished impressively with those Right Upper-Cuts. All three judges saw the fight 39-37 for Mary Ortega. I am not sure what round Leslie won but all judges saw it the same way.
